Mr President, Ms Lövin mentioned the over-capacity of the European fleet in general and she mentioned it with a view to stating that there should be no further aid for fleet renewal. I should like to say to her that we are talking about very different things when we talk about the European fleet. For example, the average ages of the fleets of the various countries, the various Member States, are profoundly different: we have countries whose fleets have an average age of 20 years or more, and we have other countries with fleets that are far more modern.
I should like to ask her whether she believes all countries should be treated equally and, if so, whether that represents a death sentence for fishing activity in those countries whose fleets have a much higher average age than others."@en1
