"I naturally voted in favour of this own-initiative report. As the Member responsible for gender equality, and, indeed, as a Socialist, this is an issue that is close to my heart. In 2010, in the EU, employment in the service sector accounted for 69.4% of all jobs, while in industry this figure was 25.4% and in agriculture 5.2%. Most of the female workforce is employed in the service sector: 83.1% compared with 58.1% of the male workforce. In the EU, women earn 17.1% less than men, although the gender pay gap ranges between 3.2% and 30.9% in the Member States. Those are just a few figures that underline how essential it is to change our approach."@en1
