"I voted in favour of the joint resolution. The European Parliament welcomes the progress made and the measures taken by the European Council in order to address the crisis in the euro area. What is important is that, on this agenda, growth no longer lags behind austerity. The Council’s undertaking to break the vicious cycle between banks and government debt and to close the gap between yields on government bonds in the euro area is a move in the right direction and an important step towards banking union in the EU as a whole. However, these decisions require a rapid implementation programme (integrated financial framework, integrated fiscal framework, integrated economic policy framework and the necessary democratic credentials and accountability for decision taking within EMU). Based on these four points, the European Parliament also expects a coordinated programme of targeted investments at national level from the Council and the Commission in order to stimulate the European economy."@en1
