I voted against such an agreement because combating piracy and copyright and the document before us aimed at legalising total spying on citizens, trampling on personal rights and freedoms, are two different things and have nothing in common. With the entry into force of such an agreement there will be restrictions on Internet freedom and citizens’ personal rights, as well as interference in their private lives and I am convinced that there is a very real basis for such fears of theirs. Attention should be drawn to the fact that the lack of a judicial decision and legal guarantees that the ACTA does not infringe any treaties or fundamental human rights is another very serious argument for not voting in favour of such a treaty."@en1
