"At a time when the economic and financial crisis has had a direct impact on the standard of living of many European citizens, reinforcing the European Union’s position as a main global destination for foreign investment is vital for European countries’ economic recovery. It is imperative to adopt measures to help both make Europe’s workers and companies more competitive and make Member States’ economies more attractive to foreign investors.
Adopting these policies is the only solution for creating jobs and kick-starting economic growth. At international level, it is important for the European Union to retain its role in promoting and actively participating in the processes supporting global economic governance. I endorse and encourage the European Union’s policy of continuing its efforts to sign bilateral or multilateral agreements promoting free trade and the EU’s involvement in these trade arrangements."@en1
