"Foodstuffs for people with special dietary needs – the so-called Parnuts foods – occupy an area that European Union regulations have covered for a long time. This sector has experienced a significant growth in recent years, as evidenced in particular by a clear increase in demand for the supply of safe and wholesome food. Despite previous attempts at harmonisation, there are still big differences between the national laws relating to Parnuts foods. These differences are an obstacle to the free movement of goods, create unnecessary regulatory burdens on companies operating in the food sector, and ultimately impede the functioning of the internal market. Last but not least, I welcome the efforts of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy to highlight in the text the need to include additional groups of products in the draft, specifically milk drinks intended for young children and food for people allergic to gluten."@en1
