"Voluntary activities attract growing numbers of young people every year, which is conducive to both local development and cross-border cooperation. Such cooperation projects play a considerable role in promoting solidarity, active citizenship and intercultural learning because the young volunteers have the chance to study the language and culture of the country where they are working. I think that EU Member States must recognise the benefits of all citizens taking part in cross-border voluntary activities, which offer them the chance to develop new skills and may contribute not only to better integration into the labour market, but also to their mobility."@en1
