"Mr President, I voted in favour of the report on the EU approach to criminal law. I support the application of the principle of mutual recognition in practice – not so much to extend the scope of EU harmonised law, but rather to promote cooperation between judiciaries which must be equally reliable and share the same level of quality and integrity.
I would like to make a comment following what I heard from my British colleagues in particular. As an MEP from a new Member State, I want to change my domestic judicial system for the better, and it is in my interest to look at judicial systems which work better and are long-established and proven over hundreds of years, so that is why I am voting for EU-level cooperation, through which best practices can be imported into the new Member States."@en1
