"As Chair of the voluntary organisation
(Women at the centre), I consider the work of the European Institute for Gender Equality to be of vital importance. I voted in favour of the report on the 2010 discharge for the institute. Discharge is the final approval of the EU budget for a given year. Following the audit and the finalisation of the annual accounts, it falls on the Council of the European Union to draw up a recommendation and then it is up to us, the MEPs, to decide whether or not to grant discharge to the Commission in respect of the implementation of the budget for the preceding financial year. This decision is based, in part, on a review of the annual accounts and on the Court of Auditors’ annual report. Discharge is therefore the political dimension of the external audit of the implementation of the budget."@en1
