I supported the inclusion of phrases that strengthen the text and the EU’s commitment to human rights, such as the reference to the need to promote public health and health education programmes in third countries and to strengthen European humanitarian aid programmes on gender equality and children’s protection. I also supported the reference to the disappointment expressed by the European Parliament on the conduct of certain Member States and their unwillingness to adopt the European Treaty on Human Rights."@en1
