"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, the situation in Italy is dramatic and our involvement in Europe is at a crisis point. This is because Italian workers do not understand Europe when they lose their jobs because big companies are shutting down in our country and opening up in European countries with lower wage costs. They do not understand Europe when the ECB, on paper, finances small and medium-sized enterprises, whereas in fact, it only helps banking institutions. They do not understand Europe when a government that was democratically elected by the Italian people is removed and replaced by technocrats, whose only proposal to solve the crisis has been to raise taxes and increase the price of fuel. They do not understand Europe when Italian fishermen on the border with Croatia are penalised by rules which the Croats, who will soon be entering the common market, do not respect. They do not understand Europe when countries which have no connection with our continent come here to exploit our resources. Europe has boundaries which are clearly defined by history: the rocks of Stonehenge to the west, the wheat of Budapest to the east, the Brandenburg Gate to the north and Castel del Monte to the south: this is Europe."@en1
