lpv:translated text	"Madam President, Baroness Ashton, ladies and gentlemen, this year’s report on human rights represents clear progress in some areas in relation to previous reports. This is particularly evident in the recognition of the issue of freedom of religion. Religious freedom is an inalienable principle of human rights. Its fundamental nature is confirmed by the UN and Council of Europe conventions. Widespread violations of this right, particularly apparent against Christians, constitute a dramatic violation of human rights worldwide. One year after the beginning of the Arab Spring, there is an increasing number of real threats to the entire Christian community in the Middle East. We must constantly remind our political partners in the region of this. It would be tragic if Christians were to become the first victim of the democratisation process that was so yearned for in this part of the world. We cannot agree with the criticism of France and the United Kingdom regarding the European Union’s accession to the European Convention on Human Rights. There is a danger that this action could result in a conflict of jurisdiction between the courts in Luxembourg and Strasbourg, and it may also result in uncontrolled expansion of the competence of European courts. The report should not contain any references to so-called reproductive health. Such provisions are a pretext for the promotion and financing of abortions all over the world, even in countries where this procedure is illegal. This is a huge abuse of trust of the citizens and the Member States, who never granted the European Commission any such competence."@en1
