"Mr President, despite all the warnings about the shortage of credit, the EU has, as we know, focused on the various Basel directives, although the Anglo-American countries, which is where these calls are coming from, were careless about implementing Basel I. However, a one-off subsidy in the form of EUR 28 billion for small and medium-sized businesses is, in my opinion, not enough to compensate for the mistakes of recent decades.
Firstly, the Basel directives need to be revised and we must give small and medium-sized businesses permanent access to EU subsidies. Secondly, we finally need to reduce the amount of red tape. Most importantly, the ink on the agreement about the new strict budget regulations is not even dry and we have already come to the acid test.
When an economic heavyweight like Spain, for example, is not expected to make further savings, despite the gaping holes in its budget, but, on the other hand, Hungary is having its funding cut, because of its alleged failure to meet budgetary objectives, then it seems to me that double standards are being applied and this is dishonest."@en1
