"In favour. This is a non-controversial report that highlights a certain number of highly consensual recommendations made by the European Parliament in order to enhance the quality management of economic statistics, including the following main elements:
gradual transition is recommended from a corrective approach to a preventive approach to the quality management of European statistics in general and public finance statistics in particular;
the Commission is urged to forward proposals for legislation aimed at introducing elements of the revised European Statistics Code of Practice into EU law, with a view to distinguishing clearly between the responsibilities and competences of national statistical agencies and those of Member State governments;
Eurostat is encouraged to disclose publicly whether it has doubts concerning the accuracy across all types of statistics;
Eurostat is urged to look at ways to make its publications, particularly those online, more user-friendly to the average citizen and non-professionals, especially with regard to the use of graphs; Eurostat’s website should, in particular, allow easier access to complete long-term data series and include intuitive comparative graphs (green input)."@en1
