"The rapporteur is right to point out that the crisis has had a particular impact on the situation of young people trying to find permanent jobs. She notes that over the last two years, the number of unemployed young people in the EU has increased by 1 million. The situation in Lithuania is particularly bad. In three years, unemployment among young people has increased from 13% to 31%. That is significantly higher than the EU average (21%). By comparison, in 2008, approximately 142 000 young people were in employment, whereas now, only 93 000 have jobs. According to the latest reports, 49 000 young men are now unemployed in Lithuania and this represents a third of Lithuania’s workforce. It should not be this way. The Annual Growth Survey rightly prioritises youth employment, but we also should not forget the quality of the work and traineeships provided for in the Commission’s policy guidelines."@en1
