However, in the European Union there are also countries that want to join the euro area. In addition, there are countries that say very consistently that they will keep their national currency. In this light, Commissioner, my question is this: can we be certain that these regulations, which are to apply to all of the EU in 2016 – this is to take place on 30 October of that year – will also apply to the United Kingdom? After all we are well aware that the UK banking system plays a very important role in Europe."@en1
