lpv:translated text	"I voted for this resolution because cooperation between the EU and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) needs to be enhanced. This memorandum supports the basic objectives of Europe’s external aviation policy. It is particularly important that the EU contributes to the decision-making process within the ICAO, given that 190 states are currently members of the organisation. Cooperation should be expanded in such areas as aviation safety, air security, air traffic management and environmental protection. Introducing common mechanisms will help improve coordination in planning programmes and technical assistance. New systems and technologies must be promoted globally. This will increase the competitiveness of Europe’s civil aviation sector. I welcome the mutual commitment to achieving the highest aviation safety levels in the world."@en1
