".
Uzbekistan, a country whose political and economic system is entirely State-run, is the fifth-largest producer of cotton and the third-largest exporter of the same product. More and more children are being deployed in the harvest in order to meet State cotton quotas. The Uzbek Government denies this practice but has refused access to an investigative committee from the International Labour Organization (ILO). In order to guarantee human rights and children’s rights, the EU should instigate measures to withdraw the country’s General System of Preference (GSP) rights for cotton. Products produced through child labour should not be given preferential treatment in future. I have voted in favour of this report."@en1
