"Parliament has finally approved mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund in favour of Renault and its 3 582 workers who have chosen voluntary redundancy. This measure will affect the Ile-de-France, Haute-Normandie and Nord-Pas-de-Calais factories. The European Union will thus grant EUR 24.5 million of aid, the highest amount ever paid to date. It is excellent news for French industry and its workers waiting for a decision to release the funds, which had been delayed by French socialists. I believe that exploiting, for political purposes, an affair that had nothing to do with purely national issues is an unacceptable manoeuvre that has no place in Parliament. That is why I am delighted that the French socialists, who have once again tried, in plenary, to get an amendment adopted that is designed to put pressure on the government, have failed."@en1
