"I welcome the decision taken by the European Parliament to mobilise EUR 24.5 million to finance the retraining of 3 582 people laid off by Renault. As the automotive sector has not been spared by the crisis, it is important for the European Union to take action to limit its effects. While, in principle, this fund can only be mobilised to help workers affected by globalisation, the EU decided to broaden its scope to cover job losses resulting from the crisis. However, I regret that this decision was not carried over to 2012. What is more, I regret the negative vote of the French Socialists, who too often prefer ideology to real assistance to European workers."@en1
