"Removing trade barriers is one of the most important actions which the EU authorities can take to be able to stimulate the competitiveness of the European Union’s economic operators. Providing European economic operators with free access to market outlets is intended to stimulate their competitiveness and innovative capability, as this is one of the European Union’s economic policy priorities. The European Union has the duty, along with its trade partners and the European External Action Service, to define and renegotiate the technical and quality standards to prevent them from becoming non-tariff barriers blocking EU producers’ access to external markets. Negotiating transitional periods and consensual trade methods with the EU’s partners will help give a boost to European producers, in addition to protecting European production standards or geographical indications. The EU must also insist on ensuring the principle of reciprocity. Just as companies outside the EU can participate in public procurement procedures in the EU, European companies must also have free access to calls for tender from the authorities in foreign countries. I voted in favour of this report."@en1
