"The present motion for a resolution, tabled in response to a statement by the Commission pursuant to Rule 110(2) of the Rules of Procedure, concerns the first Single Market Forum, held in the Polish city of Kraków on 3-4 October 2011. The economic crisis cannot make us oblivious to the human aspects of the reforms, such as the wellbeing of citizens, consumers, workers and savers. The purpose of this forum, which involved more than 1 300 participants (businesses, social partners, NGOs, European institutions, public authorities, etc.), was to discuss strategies for improving the functioning of the single market, such as promoting freedom of movement among European citizens through the automatic recognition of professional qualifications, speeding up the online Alternative Dispute Resolution system, transforming Points of Single Contact, protecting the interests of online purchasers, creating the European patent, etc. I am voting in favour of this resolution and welcome the attention it gives to small and medium-sized enterprises, the real engines of the European economy, which have the power to bring about recovery from the current economic and financial crisis by means of sustainable economic growth, thus making the single market economy increasingly dynamic and competitive."@en1
