"I voted for the European Parliament decision amending the Rules of Procedure regarding the Code of Conduct for Members of the European Parliament in respect of financial interests and conflicts of interest, as I think that Parliament needs to have clear regulations on transparency with regard to financial interests and the conduct of its members. The Rules of Procedure set out guidelines on how MEPs should exercise their office. In exercising their office, MEPs act only in the general interest without obtaining or trying to obtain any direct or indirect financial benefit or any other benefit. At the same time, MEPs are guided by and observe the following general principles of conduct: disinterest, integrity, transparency, diligence, honesty, accountability and respect for Parliament’s reputation. Parliament drafts rules on transparency with regard to the financial interests of its members in the form of a code of conduct, adopted by the majority of members who comprise it, in accordance with Article 232 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, which will be appended to the Rules of Procedure. The Bureau adopts implementing measures for this Code of Conduct, including a monitoring procedure, and may submit proposals for revision of the Code of Conduct."@en1
