"I voted in favour of this first Code of Conduct for MEPs. The code defines the conflict of interest, requires the disclosure of activities during the three years prior to the MEP’s mandate, and foresees the possibility to apply penalties, including the suspension or removal of the MEP from office. The code is a first step towards transparency and the prevailing of public interest. The code shows clearly that MEPs cannot receive money or favours in exchange for their vote or their legislative or political activity with the European Parliament. We should go further and prohibit paid membership of boards of directors, as well as a second paid job, except teaching and similar work clearly defined."@en1
