"I support this report as it goes a long way towards putting in place a Code of Conduct for MEPs in regard to financial interests and conflicts of interest. It is important that we carry out work in the most transparent way and, indeed, in an accountable fashion. However, I supported the amendment which proposed that we declare any remunerated income, not only that above EUR 5 000. I know there are administrative issues but this figure is far too high. For some people in some Member States, EUR 5 000 represents a year’s income and regardless of where you live, it is a very significant sum of money. I am concerned that we are giving out the wrong message here, and much of the good work we do will have been cancelled out by leaving this EUR 5 000 figure as part of the Code of Conduct – it is just too high."@en1
