As we wait for Croatian citizens to have their say in a referendum, the EU has given an initial green light to a Union of 28 countries. In the run-up to 1 July 2013, Croatia must continue to resolve its domestic problems, first and foremost fighting corruption and undertaking legal reforms. Structural reforms are needed to keep public debt under control and improve the labour market. So far, Croatia has complied with all the limits that were imposed, even in spite of the ongoing global economic crisis. This is, without doubt, a good sign which gives some hope that this Balkan country will be able to join the EU successfully."@en1
