As a representative of a country featuring among the most recent Member States to have joined the European Union, I am pleased that yet another country is going to join the EU in 2013. Croatia’s accession offers a beginning and a model for all the countries in the Western Balkans. The European integration of the Western Balkans is a key strategy for achieving the European objectives of stability and prosperity. Croatia has made progress in every area involved in the accession process during the last 12 months and is a state offering great potential for the EU. The accession process has made a considerable contribution to turning Croatia into a democracy based on European values and has given impetus to the political and economic reforms. All these efforts from the Croatian State must be rewarded so that its citizens can enjoy fully their country’s status as an EU Member State."@en1
