"I would like to express my full support for this report. One of the ideas behind the European Union is the free movement of persons, which is meant to promote relationships among people, as well as commercial and intellectual exchanges. Therefore, instead of setting up barriers, we should circumvent them. The Kaliningrad region is a unique enclave and, prior to the accession of Poland and Lithuania to the EU, the residents of border areas maintained close contacts in various spheres of life. It is understandable that we want to protect the Union’s external border; however, one should also take into account the exceptional nature of this situation, as in the case of Romania and Moldova or Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine. Special procedures for visa-free local traffic would enable the free development of trade and make life easier for the inhabitants of these areas, who have been deprived of the relationships they had built over many years. The statistics provide clear proof of how much this is needed."@en1
