"Today in plenary, we voted on the report by Ms Honeyball on tackling early school leaving (ESL). ESL is a complex phenomenon and a huge challenge facing Europe. Consequently, the EU has been putting in place numerous measures and tools to better support Member States in developing efficient and effective national policies to tackle it. They include the Commission communication on tackling early school leaving, a new proposal for a Council recommendation on policies to reduce ESL and the Commission’s initiative ‘Youth on the Move’. Most EU countries have made at least some progress in reducing the number of young people leaving school early or with low qualifications, and there has been a noticeable and positive change in how they approach ESL. The report on which we voted today argues that far more needs to be done."@en1
