"Discussions are due to be held in Washington on 28 November on economic policy, support for current developments in the Middle East and North Africa and the position in relation to the once again deteriorating political situation in relation to Iran. Since 40% of the world’s trade and 50% of GDP are accounted for by the EU and the US, a joint financial regulatory framework between the two partners would be ideal. Alternatively, the European Parliament supports the prospect of the EU supervisory authorities taking a leading role in international cooperation. As part of the ‘Arab Spring’, the EU and US must take a concerted approach or, at the very least, should coordinate their efforts. It will be necessary to deploy every political, diplomatic and economic means in relation to Iran. I have voted in favour."@en1
