"The aim of the ITER project is to develop fusion energy. It will be a clean and sustainable form of energy, and will contribute to combating climate change, and to security of supply. ITER is the biggest international cooperation project led by Europe, involving research centres and universities, and it is of the utmost importance for the development of scientific research. Europe should continue to support this project, but I would draw attention to several management mistakes that have been made in the past. It is necessary to ensure careful and responsible management in the future. It is important to find solutions and means of funding that allow the project to be continued. However, I am opposed to solutions that make use of the funding allocated to the Framework Programme for Research, as this puts the rest of the programme’s priorities at risk."@en1
