"European cinema is an economic and cultural resource to be protected and supported by policies that take account of the latest technological advances and the prospects for growth in outlying and rural areas. I voted in favour of the report because ensuring that the MEDIA programme and the whole European film industry move with the times may, in my view, be the right way to come to the aid of a sector that has proved able to attract large numbers of Europeans despite the current crisis. I think we need to invest and focus our efforts in several areas: implementation of digital technologies, copyright enforcement, consumer protection, promotion of culture, screenings in rural areas and encouragement for the production of films that take account of diversity within the European Union while preserving its spirit of unity. Given the number of these aspects covered by European policies on the subject, the film industry will be able to look to the future with renewed economic and cultural vision."@en1
