"The European Heritage Label is spread throughout the EU, which has successively experienced Greek, Roman and Judeo-Christian influence, broken down into Jewish, and Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Christian traditions; in some cases it was also touched by Arab and Ottoman influences. The European ‘label’ is specifically the heritage, both built and non-built, which points to the diversity of different civilisations that, layered one on top of the other on the same land, today underlie the cultures of the Member States. In order to properly talk about a European label, we cannot hide the role of each Member State in the formation and configuration of this same label, and we must resist the temptation to look solely for references that are consensual but that fail to demonstrate the multicultural reality
which permeates all so-called European high culture. I welcome the decision to valorise European heritage. I hope this valorisation of European heritage will not take a discriminatory path and will not seek to rewrite history."@en1
