"Consumer spending generates over half the gross domestic product of the European Union (EU). In the context of the current crisis, which undeniably has an impact on consumer behaviour, drawing up and adopting this new strategy was a necessary step. That is why I voted in favour of this report in plenary. Among its main objectives, I particularly support the one which entails basing all future actions on an overall approach that places consumers at the heart of the single market. Since consumer confidence is a powerful economic engine, we must work towards improving consumer awareness and unifying the legal framework for protecting consumers at European level, while taking into account the needs and specific features of each group of consumers, in particular, the most vulnerable (young people, the disabled)."@en1
