"The recognition of professional qualifications is an essential condition for the mobility of workers in the European single market. Experience with the operation of Directive 2005/35/EC shows that many aspects of the recognition of qualifications need to be changed. Therefore, in the resolution which has been adopted, we point to aspects which, in our opinion, should be simplified to make it easier for citizens who, when they move to another Member State, want to continue working in the profession in which they are qualified to work in their country of origin.
Among other things, we call for the inclusion of a greater number of professions in the system of automatic recognition of professional qualifications, introduction of a European professional card, use of the latest information technology and simplification of procedures. I am certain that the amendments proposed by the European Parliament will contribute to the streamlining of the European single market and will help citizens to be professionally mobile. I will be very interested to follow and take part in work on the amendments to the Professional Qualifications Directive which the European Commission intends to submit before the end of the year."@en1
