"I welcomed this report. Beekeeping as an economic and social activity plays a crucial role in the sustainable development of rural areas, the creation of economic and social public goods, food security and maintaining biodiversity. Recently, increased bee mortality in the EU and throughout the world has led to a marked decrease in the number of bee colonies, which will have a negative impact on agriculture, food production and security, biodiversity, environmental sustainability and ecosystems. I welcome the call to increase the level of support for honeybee health-related research under the next financial framework (FP8) and to focus research on technological developments and disease prevention and control."@en1
