"The recognition of professional qualifications in Europe still depends too much on cumbersome and costly administrative procedures which militate against the mobility of professionals. I therefore voted in favour of this report, which proposes ways to change this situation, in particular, by simplifying information-based procedures and ensuring the transparency of decisions and the reduction of timeframes. It is also necessary to update the, at times rather fusty, current classification of economic activities as well as minimum training requirements. In the case of health care professionals, I was particularly keen to support the establishment of a proactive alert mechanism which would make it possible to issue an alert to other Member States when a regulatory action is taken against a professional. Furthermore, on the issue of the professional card, which the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament has been calling for for many years now, we want to simplify procedures for professionals, improve exchanges of information between authorities, and reassure customers and patients. I also hope that these elements are taken into account in the future Commission proposal on the revision of the 2005 directive."@en1
