"In this resolution, the majority in Parliament once again shows its complete lack of respect for the fundamental principles of international law, especially non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. It also violates principles that it claims to follow, such as the separation of powers, impartiality, transparency and the independence of the judiciary from political power, when it seeks to influence the trial of Yulia Tymoshenko that is underway in the Ukrainian courts. They go even further, using blackmail and threats, saying that if Ms Tymoshenko’s conviction is not overturned, it ‘will jeopardise the conclusion of the association agreement and its ratification, while pushing the country further away from the realisation of its European perspective’. The majority in Parliament have difficulty in hiding the hypocrisy of this policy, the fundamental aim of which is to interfere in Ukraine’s internal affairs in order to create better conditions for defending the interests of big business and the financial sectors in their own countries. In view of all this, we voted against this resolution."@en1
