"The outcome of yesterday’s EU summit has at least brought us one thing – a result at last. The results are to be welcomed, as they definitely are ‘proper measures’. A haircut of 50% for Greece is a sign of ‘European solidarity’. I would like to stress that this debt relief for Greece ought to have been implemented this time last year and it would have spared us – Europe – a lot of problems. It is always possible to be wiser in hindsight. We – the EU – have hopefully learnt from our mistakes and therefore I would like to offer a reminder about responsibility and prudence – in relation to our citizens, courage for caution and far-sightedness and promptness – with regard to compliance with the debt quotas and, above all, where the promised EFSF lever is concerned."@en1
