"As is well known, services represent one fifth of all EU internal trade, but more than two thirds of gross domestic product (GDP) and jobs, while the activities covered by the Services Directive represent 40% of GDP and of the jobs in the EU. A single market in services is, therefore, crucial to the success of any European policy intended to boost growth, jobs and innovation, as well as to preserve European competitiveness in a global world. However, the mutual evaluation has demonstrated that the Commission needs to take further measures in order for the European economy to benefit fully from the potential of the single market in services. As such, the Commission will prioritise work with the Member States on an individual basis, so as to achieve proper and full transposition and implementation of the directive throughout the EU."@en1
