"Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, to begin with, I should like to thank the rapporteur, Mr Casa, for his work. I am pleased because the report contains numerous references to simplifying administration, particularly red tape. By using the technological and digital tools at our disposal as well, these measures could be a great help, especially to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
I would like to underline in particular an amendment that I tabled and which was carried, which moves towards the introduction of a Europe-wide value-added tax (VAT) exemption for SMEs. This would reduce costs and charges and, above all, facilitate wider access to the internal market, particularly for young entrepreneurs.
Furthermore, I appreciate the efforts aiming for more efficient VAT collection. This measure is necessary in order to prevent potential fraud, a phenomenon that has unfortunately been very common in recent years."@en1
