"Madam President, what happened in Libya was a dream come true. I would like to congratulate the people of Libya for having the courage and determination to fight for their freedom.
At the same time I would also like to express my solidarity with the families of all those who lost their lives, who were the victims and martyrs of this revolution. I am proud of the fact that this parliament was among the first to call for a no fly zone, and one of the first to recognise the National Transitional Council. What now? Now we need to help Libyans take the next step towards a nation built upon the foundations of peace, democracy, justice and freedom. Now we must help them in the transition towards normality, so that the people of Libya can lead normal lives, with access to basic needs, like water and electricity, access to health care, and access to employment, which will give them dignity. There is a lot we can do. We can help Libya build democratic institutions which respect the law and the separation of executive, legislative and judiciary powers. We have a lot of experience we can offer in this regard, and in the building of a democratic environment. We must show that we are ready to back the people of Libya in every step they take towards democracy."@en1
