"The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) was created in 2006 in order to provide additional assistance to workers affected by the consequences of significant changes in the structure of international trade and to assist in their reintegration into the labour market. Since 1 May 2009, the remit of the EGF has been expanded to include support for workers made redundant as a direct consequence of the economic, financial and social crisis. At this time of severe crisis, one of the principal consequences of which is an increase in unemployment, the EU needs to use all of the means at its disposal to respond, particularly with regard to providing support to those who find themselves without a job from one day to the next. That is why I voted for this report on the mobilisation of the EGF for the Netherlands, with the aim of supporting workers made redundant from 14 enterprises operating in the printing and reproduction of recorded media sector in the region of Noord-Brabant."@en1
