"Once again we have chosen to support the mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund – this time to help people who have lost their jobs in Austria and the Netherlands – because Europe is still suffering the effects of the economic crisis and exceptional times require exceptional measures.
However, we believe that in future we should instead use instruments that already exist – in particular the European Social Fund – in order to increase the employability of those who have been given notice or have been made redundant. There should be no need for a Globalisation Adjustment Fund in the next budgetary period, and it should be made clear that social policy is primarily the responsibility of the Member States."@en1
