"I supported this report, which aims to bring legislation into line with legal reality. I would like to note that the common European agricultural policy must also mean real equal treatment between different Member States. The situation in which a distinction is still drawn between the agricultural producers of so-called old and new Member States is unacceptable. As far as the payment of direct agricultural subsidies is concerned, the situation is indeed changing, but it would be fairest for producers and consumers if the market regulated things itself, without the European Union and Member States paying large subsidies, thereby distorting the market."@en1
