"In 2002, the EU signed an Association Agreement with Chile covering politics, trade and cooperation. Chile is an important reference point in relation to the main economic and political changes that have taken place in Latin America in recent years, such as stable economic growth stimulated by the price of raw materials, the coming to power of parties representing the people in a number of states, the increasing international role of Latin American states, changes to the composition of regional groupings such as Mercosur, projects to create large South American networks, a project aiming to create a South American Community of Nations, and so on. Major changes have also taken place in relations with the EU, from the Association Agreement itself to the strong growth of European investments in Chile."@en1
