It is well known that prior to this Agreement, aviation was the subject of bilateral agreements with 19 of the EU Member States. I supported this proposal because it will facilitate air transport, but mainly because it includes a gradual phasing-in of air traffic rights and investment opportunities, as well as far-reaching cooperation on a number of issues including safety, security, social matters, consumer interests, the environment, air traffic management, state aids and competition.
