"Mr President, Commissioner, we are here to talk about salaries and proposals on the age of retirement. These proposals are downright unfair, to say the very least. They are unfair as they insist upon routes that have already been proven, more than once, to end in failure. What is happening in Ireland, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and who knows in how many other countries as the list is endless, is different in each of these countries, but they have certain things in common. One of the things that we have in common is an unprecedented transfer of the value of work to financial capital. We cannot accept this. The other thing that we have in common is that it is the workers, retired people and pensioners who are paying for this crisis, along with a generation of workers in unstable jobs who do not have any guarantees in the society in which they live. I should therefore like to finish by saying, Mr President and Commissioner, that we cannot continue to condemn people to poverty. I sincerely hope …"@en1
