Protein crops currently occupy only 3% of the European Union’s arable land and supply only 30% of the proteins used for animal feed. I support the rapporteur’s opinion stating that this situation must change as this will be beneficial for human health, as well as for the environment and biodiversity. The European Commission should draft a report on the possibilities and options for increasing domestic protein crop production in the EU by means of new policy instruments. It is also useful to establish a mechanism for monitoring the origin of protein crops imported into the EU."@en1
