"This report on the reduction of health inequalities in the EU sets out various measures that I believe to be worthwhile and important. Nevertheless, I abstained from the final vote as I could not agree with the EU and the Member States having to guarantee women completely free access to abortion. Investment should always be made at the level of family planning and contraception, with abortion being a last resort for exceptional situations. I also do not believe that there should be free access to assisted reproduction technologies, which should be subject to the principle of subsidiarity and never used as an instrument for eliminating discrimination against women because of their marital status, age, sexual orientation, or ethnic or cultural origin."@en1
